House of Nathan

House of Nathan Inc has been established to provide a prevention and early intervention service to pregnant or parenting teenagers, single pregnant women, or women with a new baby living in difficult circumstances without support. House of Nathan is tailored to meet the needs of the young women fleeing from domestic violence, homelessness, family and relationship breakdown, or who are unable to cope with a new baby or an unexpected pregnancy.  House of Nathan clients would benefit from active interaction on a day-to-day basis, receiving love, care, encouragement, skills and material needs.

Activities Include:

  • Access to and help with Centrelink payments
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Support person during birth
  • Health Nurse visits
  • Transport
  • Preparation, housekeeping, budgeting, setting boundaries, making good choices, hygiene, nutrition.
  • Planned casework management
  • Assist clients with completing their education and with current or gaining employment (if appropriate).
  • Outreach support on exiting the House of Nathan.
  • Offer training in parenting, living skills, cooking, budgeting, nutrition.

How does it impact women?
House of Nathan endeavours to have a child - centred family - focused approach. The children of these young women will benefit from the service in providing them with a safe, nurturing, healthy and caring environment in which to live. This in-turn strengthens the mother ensuring the safety and well-being of the child.

How long has it been running?
House of Nathan was established in 2002.
